Kinja'd!!!

Went to a dealership to test drive a FiST. On my way there the Miata showed 0psi oil pressure for a few seconds so that was neat. Hopefully just a sender. Anyways. Drove a FiST since I happen to need reliable modern practical transportation that isn’t an utter penalty box, despite a chorus of people telling me that a base Fiesta or a Honda Fit but I want a car I can keep for 6 years without being saddled with a total penalty-box.

Anyways.

Fiesta.

It did not disappoint.

Things I liked:

Speakers were adequate.

Exhaust was nice, slightly throatier than the Miata but the same volume

Power delivery was fun

Seats were okay

Surprising amount of room in the back seat and the hatch

False floor in the hatch was nifty

Shifter was surprisingly good

Wind noise on the highway was minimal

Automatic HVAC is the best invention ever.

Things I didn’t like:

Drive by wire is dumb and I hate it how the hell do you heel toe one of these?

Holy MOTHER of A-pillars

Needs more turbo noises

But yeah. 10/10 would own.

For the dislikes.

1) Pedal spacers are common mods. But heads up - dealerships and shops will pitch an absolute bitch if they see one.

2) Yeah......no getting around this one.

3) Intake + symposer delete = lots of woosh noises. More if you get an exhaust and blow off valve.

For extra fun - drive a pre-facelift and then a post facelift FoST. It’s neat to see how the engineers kept improving. Honestly my FiST was a bit loud on the highway with stock exhaust and intake and everything. Lots of road noise too.

Sounds like a match made in heaven ... or close.

I honestly think they added deadening in the newer ones. Mine was whisper quiet inside up until I cut the exhaust off. Even then, besides a little bit of windnoise from something in the roof that can be mended, there are no other noises besides exhaust and a whee bit of turbo noise.

A drop in filter more or less doubles the turbo and blow off noise.

I have looked into that repeatedly, but can’t confirm an answer either way. I know they softened the suspension bushings and I think that might’ve done it. I do know people reported fewer squeaks and rattles after the 2016s came out due to this.

I’ve had one interior squeak/rattle, and I fixed that.

I uh.....I had several. I fixed a few and then decided that rallycross would just produce more and said “Fuck it...”

I’d like to drive one of these and pick one up as a DD next year. It just seems to make all of the sense, even though a FoST is probably a better choice for me.

I forgot to mention that I still utterly hate how they look. Stupid blob of an egg car with eyeliner wings on the headlights. But everything else is so good...

The rubber gauge cover thing squeaked, so I shoved a folded piece of paper in. But other than things I have shoved in the soare tire area, it’s rattle free.

I don’t mind it, but then again I don’t have to look at one every day.
